Surrogacy Arrangements for Same Sex Male Couples
Our office has helped many same sex male couples find gestational surrogates to carry their baby to term. In a traditional surrogacy arrangement, the surrogate can become pregnant using her own eggs through artificial insemination using the sperm of one or both male partners. More commonly, a gestational surrogacy arrangement with anonymous egg donation is used. This method employs in vitro fertilization (IVF) to create embryos using donated eggs joined with sperm from one or both male partners. Donated sperm may also be used if one or both partners have fertility issues.
Our specialists will commonly use sperm from both male partners to fertilize the donated eggs. Next they will transfer two embryos to the gestational carrier's uterus, in the hopes that a baby with a biological connection to each male parent will be born. We can also freeze embryos to make them available for transfer at a later date, should a couple decide to further grow their family in the future.
Biological Connections for Same Sex Couples
We understand that it is important to many parents to have a biological connection to their child, and our specialists frequently assist couples with technologically advanced solutions. In addition to fertilizing eggs with sperm donated by both male partners, we also offer other methods of conceiving children with biological ties to both male partners.
Our specialists have assisted in cases involving a gay couple that first has a child genetically related to one partner, and later uses the other partner's sperm to conceive a second child. When the eggs have been donated by the same woman, the children will be related to each other through their biological mother, and each child will be related to a male partner in the relationship.
Our physicians also accommodate cases in which one partner has a female relative who volunteers to donate her eggs. Those eggs are then fertilized by the other partner's sperm before being transferred to the surrogate's uterus. This allows for both partners to share a biological connection with the child.
